Tuhka dwelling house

Saarjärve Farm was founded as a rented farm of Vana-Antsla Manor by the Hanks into the primeval forest in 1864. In 1880, Estonians started raising medicinal leeches, which sold well in France and England. Mikk Hank treated the people of his hamlet with leeches. I, Elmar Susi, started raising leeches in 1955. Aleksander Reponen, lecturer of zoology at Tallinn Pedagogical Institute, taught me the technology.

Leeches were used to suck out "bad blood" in the old days. In modern days, leeches' saliva has been researched and nearly 100 bioactive substances that inhibit thrombus formation, stabilise blood pressure, lower cholesterol level in the blood and help avoid inflammation and strengthen the immune system and aura, have been found in it. Leeches cure inflammations, ischaemia, help to avoid infarction and gangrene.

Saarjärve Farm raises also vipers within a stone fence. Viper venom, too, cures numerous diseases. I also have bees, from whom I take pollen, beebread, propolis, i.e. bee glue and queen bee milk. A health spring is also on the lands on the farm. Its water contains ions of 14 chemical elements and has a curative effect. An ailing place is found with the help of a pendulum and a try square.

Two of the biggest stones of South-eastern Estonia – the Groom Stone and Bride Stone – can be found on the lands of Saarjärve Farm. An old belief is that these two can enhance a person's telepathic powers and give energy. A legend tells us of the bed of Old Nick being on the island of Saarjärve. Nowadays, young couples may try sleeping there.

Saarjärve Farm is a part of the Woods Crone Family Park and takes an active part in its operation and development.
